2 - Bandung

Not really much to see. 1 day is enough

3 - Pandangaran

Really a great spot for surfing and wandering around

4 - Yogyakarta

Great place to spend a few days. Offers really a lot. Borbudur and Prambanan temple!

5 - Probolinggo

Small town. Just a transsition station for travelers to Bromo. Many touts around the railway station. Watch out and bargain a lot. it is usual to reach 50 % of the original price

6 - Bromo

Started the journey to Bromo at 1am. Wanted to see the sunrise. Really beautifull. Though qiute cold. Bring a jacket.

7 - Ijen

This trip to Ijen crater was a great opportunity to see how difficult life can be and what unbearable conditions must the sulfur miner withstand.

8 - Bali

A lot good spots for surfing and entertainment. I did not like it that much. Too touristy. Do not stay for long in Kuta.

9 - Around Bali

A lot of temples. Ulun Danu Beratan and Uluwatu temples! Copi Luwak plantation.

It could be a paradise on earth but sometimes it is just too crowdy. Really recommend to do the turle snorkeling. Don't buy magic mushrooms they don't work here :-)

Description

We started our adventure in Jakarta. There we spent only three days and visited the main sites. I really recommend Café Batavia. see my blog. From there we took a train to Bandung. In Bandung we hired a car to Pandangaran because there was no direct connection by train or bus.

Panadangaran was just great. At that time of a year almost no one there. We had beaches with good waves for surfing just for ourselves. There are also great places to go like the Green Canyon for body rufting or old Japanese fortress.

Our next stop was Yogyakarta and the great temples of Borobudur and Prambanan. Also the old Yogja(slang name for Yogyakarta) is worth visiting. Especially Sultan Palace, Water Castle and Kota Gede.

We took a train to Proboliggo from Yogja. From there it is quite close to Bromo. There were many touts at the train station in Probolinggo. Bargain a lot. We hired a driver with a car and took a cheap hotel. Trips to Bromo usually starts early morning becasue everyone wanna see the sunrise. So did we. It was a spectacular view. There are many other tracks in that area. You can even rent a horse if you are too tired :-)

We continued our jorney to Ijen crater where the quite well known sulfur mine is. See my blog about this place. Crazy adventure again and again we waited for sunrise over the crater.

Then we hit the road to Bali. We found some cheap acommodations in Kuta which we a bit regreted later. We rented scooters and made may trips around Bali. Make sure that you have the international driving licence otherwise the local police will ask for bribes.

We finnished the trip in Gili Islands. We took the snorkeling trip with turtles and tried the magic mushrooms which did not work :-)

From Gili we returned to Denpasar and flew back home.

Things you should try in Indonesia:

1. drink the local beer Bintang

2. take a surfing lesson

3. Try some spicy Indonesian food

4. Have some Copi Luwak (Civet coffee)

5. Rent a scooter for trips
