Route

1 - Zagreb

We stayed here just over the night. Although Zagreb is a nice historical nice. In the summer it is quite empty.

2 - Jajce

Jajce is a small historical town in central Bosnia. It has several landmarks which are worth seeing. The most famous one is the waterfall inside the town. There is also a fortress, mosques, churches and old towers.

3 - Sarajevo

Sarajevo is the Bosnian capitol city with historical old town. Sarajevo is well-known in the world history for the fact that Franz Ferdinand d'Este was assassinated here. This was the trigger for WWI. Today, there is a museum on the spot where the assassination happened. Another place that is a must in Sarajevo is the Tunnel of Hope. It was an underground tunnel constructed between March and June 1993 during the Siege of Sarajevo in the midst of the Bosnian War.

4 - Boracko

It is glacial lake with an elliptical shape. Lake Boračko lies at the northeastern foot of the mountain Prenj.

5 - Mostar

Beautiful old town with a historical bridge from 15th century. There are many restaurants offering amazing views around the bridge. We stayed only one night and it was enough.

6 - Kravica

I was a bit dissapointed by this place. There was not much water at that time and immense amount of people. Almost no spot for sun bathing. we spend here only about 2 hours. But the place must be awesome when it is empty and with more water.

7 - Budva

8 - Ohrid

Lake Ohrid is one of Europe's deepest and oldest lake. It lies between Albania and Macedonia. We visited the Macedonian side in the town of Ohrid. The town offers many beautiful spots swimming and sun bathing. The water is absolutely clean and clear. There are also very old churches and the university where Saints Cyril and Methodius invented the Cyrillic alphabets.

9 - Belgrade

We did not have much time for Belgrade but the old town looked nice. The street Skadarlija was quite a place to be in Belgrade.

01

Zagreb

We stayed here just over the night. Although Zagreb is a nice historical nice. In the summer it is quite empty.

Our own car

CarTransport:
We only traveled by our own car. In countries like Bosnia, Montenegro or Albania is gass significantly cheaper than in the western part of Europe. Further we were four in the car. This makes this type of traveling quite cheap.
02

Jajce

Jajce is a small historical town in central Bosnia. It has several landmarks which are worth seeing. The most famous one is the waterfall inside the town. There is also a fortress, mosques, churches and old towers.

Our own car

CarTransport:
Roads were quite empty and smooth despite the summer peak.
03

Sarajevo

Sarajevo is the Bosnian capitol city with historical old town. Sarajevo is well-known in the world history for the fact that Franz Ferdinand d'Este was assassinated here. This was the trigger for WWI. Today, there is a museum on the spot where the assassination happened. Another place that is a must in Sarajevo is the Tunnel of Hope. It was an underground tunnel constructed between March and June 1993 during the Siege of Sarajevo in the midst of the Bosnian War.

Our own car

CarTransport:
The road to the lake is bumpy and narrow and requires certain driving skills.
04

Boracko

It is glacial lake with an elliptical shape. Lake Boračko lies at the northeastern foot of the mountain Prenj.

Our own car

CarTransport:
We had to use the same road to get back from Boračko. Also sometimes it is necessary to pay toll fee but it is not much.
05

Mostar

Beautiful old town with a historical bridge from 15th century. There are many restaurants offering amazing views around the bridge. We stayed only one night and it was enough.

Our own car

CarTransport:
We were passing around the town of Počitejl with an old castle on the hill.
06

Kravica

I was a bit dissapointed by this place. There was not much water at that time and immense amount of people. Almost no spot for sun bathing. we spend here only about 2 hours. But the place must be awesome when it is empty and with more water.

Our own car

CarTransport:
It was a fine and always surprising experience. We encountered cattle on winding and bumpy roads quite often.
07

Budva

Our own car

CarTransport:
It might be a nightmare for unexperienced driver to drive in Albania. Local drivers sometimes do not respect traffic rules and sometimes drive in the middle of the road but it is not difficult to get used to it. The real hell is driving in the Albanian capitol - Tirana. The funny fact is that most of the cars are Mercedeses in Albania. Roads were quite ok and gass stations as well.
08

Ohrid

Lake Ohrid is one of Europe's deepest and oldest lake. It lies between Albania and Macedonia. We visited the Macedonian side in the town of Ohrid. The town offers many beautiful spots swimming and sun bathing. The water is absolutely clean and clear. There are also very old churches and the university where Saints Cyril and Methodius invented the Cyrillic alphabets.

Our own car

CarTransport:
The road to Serbian border has really a poor quality. Serbian highways were ok.
09

Belgrade

We did not have much time for Belgrade but the old town looked nice. The street Skadarlija was quite a place to be in Belgrade.

Description

I would like to encourage you to travel to Balkan countries. There are really hospitable and friendly people. One of the great things in Balkan is the local cuisine. Many different local specialities will make your trip unforgettable.

We actually stared our trip in Prague and went through Slovakia, Hungary to Croatia where we just stayed over night and then continued to Sarajevo. On the road we made several interesting stops, like in the city of Jajce.

Our next point on the mapy was Mostar with its old iconic bridge. We were also making stops like at the lake Boračko. From Mostar, our next destinations were waterfalls in Kravica and old town of Počitejl with its castle.

Heading down to Montenegro, we had a briliant opportunity for astonishing views on the coast and mountains between Bosnia and Montenegro. We spend two nights in Budva. Really crowded there but clean and clear sea. That is why we decided for a quiter place and passed Albania to Macedonian lake Ohrid.

We found the lake super nice and clean. Although it was quite struggling to get an accommodation we stayed for almost three days eventually.

Finally we headed to Belgrade. There we spend only one night. But we had only a good impressions.
